Al Ahsa

Al Asfar Lake in eastern Al Ahsa is the largest body of water in the Gulf region and the Kingdom's only fully integrated wildlife habitat, hosting resident and migratory birds among reeds and grasses.

Built between 1790 and 1800, Sahood Palace is named after a great cannon once mounted there. Its mighty walls, seven round watchtowers, and gun ports made it a formidable fortress, with inner chambers, a mosque, an armory, a well, and stables.

A historic palace north of Al Kut district that once served as the main Ottoman garrison in Al Ahsa, captured by King Abdulaziz on 13 April 1913 during the unification of the Eastern Province.

Built around 1207–1210 AH at the south-western entrance of Hofuf in Al Naathil district during the reign of Imam Saud bin Abdulaziz the Great, as a military defense against seasonal Bedouin encampments.

One of the oldest seaports in Saudi Arabia, named after the Ujair tribe that settled the area in the first millennium BCE. Before oil, it was the principal port of the Eastern Province and central Najd.

One of the oldest mosques in Al Ahsa, built in the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by Bani Abd Al-Qais of Bahrain who embraced Islam willingly. Its original foundations still stand today within Jawatha Park.

A signature landmark of Al Ahsa famed for its caves that stay cool in summer and warm in winter, with striking rock formations that draw photographers and explorers year-round.

One of the oldest pottery sites in Al Ahsa, rooted in centuries of tradition kept alive by the Al Gharash family. Master craftsman Ali bin Hussein Al Gharash represents the craft at international exhibitions.

A pioneering training center for handicrafts, the first licensed by the TVTC. It develops artisans' skills while preserving authentic crafts and adapting their products for modern consumers.

The oldest government school in the Kingdom, founded by King Abdulaziz in Hofuf. Its eastern entrance showcases Islamic architectural design, and many of the nation's prominent figures graduated from its halls.

The historic house in Al Kut district, Hofuf, where the people of Al Ahsa pledged allegiance to King Abdulaziz in 1331 AH after he liberated the region. Founded in 1203 AH, it stretches over 705 sqm.

In Al Refa'a district, one of the oldest popular markets and a key heritage landmark of Hofuf. Its Ottoman-style covered alleys host hundreds of shops blending tradition, trade, and local identity.
